Business Owner Detained for Masterminding Scheme Selling Weight Loss Pens

A 37-year-old businesswoman, suspected of heading a criminal organization that was illegally selling weight loss medications at a shopping center in São Vicente, on the coast of São Paulo, has been arrested along with a 36-year-old nurse and a 57-year-old delivery driver. Civil Police found the trio at the business where the products were being sold, though they were released following a custody hearing. According to the police report, authorities initiated investigations after receiving an anonymous tip. On social media, police found posts by the businesswoman advertising the sale of products such as Mounjaro and Ozempic, promoted online and sold at her perfumery (see above). Structure of the Criminal Group

In her posts, the businesswoman detailed the scheme, mentioning an 18-year-old as an employee and partner responsible for deliveries. She stated that she only brought the products to the perfumery that were intended to be sold that day to avoid losses in the event of a police raid. In other videos, she mentioned maintaining a WhatsApp group with clients, where she and alleged nurses or doctors, who have not yet been identified, provided "support" regarding the use of the medications. The businesswoman also expressed concern about potential complaints. Warning and Product Purchase

During the investigation, police discovered that the businesswoman had already been warned by the shopping center administration for selling products outside the scope of the perfumery. Investigators also believe that she traveled to the border with Argentina and Paraguay between October 15 and 18, returning to Brazil with illegal medications, without guarantee of origin or quality.

Scheme Confirmed

On Monday (20th), officers went to the shopping center and caught the young woman mentioned as a partner working at the perfumery alongside the nurse. The delivery driver was also seen in front of the businesswoman's house. Besides medications, perfumery products were also seized by the Civil Police in São Vicente (SP) Besides medications, perfumery products were also seized by the Civil Police in São Vicente (SP) -- Photo: Disclosure/Civil Police The next day, the team returned to the location and surprised the businesswoman and the nurse in action. Behind the counter, officers found more medications packaged for delivery. Products from the perfumery were also seized due to the lack of invoices. In the trash, there were ampoules of used weight loss pens. Shortly after, the delivery driver was approached as he left the shopping center acting suspiciously and carrying a bag from the store. He had an ampoule of Mounjaro and application items with him.

Seizures

  • Illegal medications
  • Perfumes without invoices
  • Sexual stimulants
  • Notebooks with sales records, values, and quantities
  • A post office extract indicating shipments to other cities
In addition to the illegal medications seized, as well as the perfumes without invoices, police also located sexual stimulants, notebooks with sales records, values, and quantities, as well as a post office extract that indicated shipments to other cities. At the businesswoman's home, more medications, styrofoam packaging with freezable gel, and her cell phone were found and collected.

Businesswoman Claimed Personal Use

The trio was arrested in the act and gave statements. The businesswoman confessed to buying the drugs in Paraguay, but denied selling them, claiming they were for personal use and for friends. She also stated that the nurse was just a friend. The professional, suspected of administering the medications, denied involvement. The delivery driver claimed he did not know what he was transporting. Two other women, including the partner mentioned in the businesswoman's posts, were not located, but have been indicted by the Civil Police.

Custody Hearing

In a statement, the Court of Justice of São Paulo (TJ-SP) reported that the arrested trio was granted provisional release in a custody hearing this Wednesday (22nd). However, they must appear in court bimonthly to inform and justify their activities and are prohibited from leaving the district for more than 10 days or changing their address without authorization from the Justice Department. In addition, a commitment to attend all acts of the process was established.
