What is Cagrilintide?
Cagrilintide is an investigational long-acting amylin analog. Amylin is a hormone that works with insulin to regulate blood sugar and satiety. Unlike GLP-1 medications, cagrilintide targets a different pathway to slow gastric emptying and reduce appetite.
Clinical trials show that cagrilintide can lead to significant weight loss (up to 14.5% in 26 weeks). It's also being studied in combination with semaglutide (as CagriSema) for even greater efficacy.
FAQ
Is cagrilintide the same as Wegovy?
No. Wegovy is semaglutide (a GLP-1 agonist). Cagrilintide is an amylin analog. They work differently and are sometimes used together.
Is cagrilintide approved by the FDA?
As of 2024, it is still in Phase 3 clinical trials and has not yet received FDA approval for weight loss or diabetes.
