Jelly Roll's Remarkable Weight Loss Journey Without Medications
Jelly Roll is candidly discussing his astounding weight reduction success—and the key tactic he employed to achieve it!
In an upcoming feature for Men's Health magazine on Friday, the artist clarified his choice to forego weight loss drugs to shed almost 300 pounds, stating:
"I distinctly recall folks suggesting GLP-1s, such as Ozempic or Mounjaro, mentioning, 'It's going to cause some stomach discomfort.' Considering how poorly I've cared for my body, I'm amazed God has preserved my singing ability this long. I felt undeserving. Fear wasn't my driving force."
His nutrition expert and cook, Ian Larios, elaborated:
"While discussing the GLP-1 alternatives, he learned from others that their voices became hoarse, impacting speech and tone, so he dismissed that idea right away."
What an unforeseen rationale! It appears he investigated thoroughly and concluded it wasn't ideal for him.
So, what method did he adopt? The 41-year-old viewed his dietary patterns as a dependency and sought counseling for assistance, detailing:
"Prior to checking my blood tests, I pursued mental health support for my excessive eating. I addressed my food dependency as it truly was: a compulsion. How did I handle cocaine? I attended sessions, secured a mentor, detoxed, endured hardships, and made tough emotional decisions to quit cocaine and codeine. I approached the food issue identically. Treating it as such revolutionized everything."
This strategy enabled him to reduce from 540 pounds to 265. A true feat! It has transformed numerous life areas, even his intimate relationship with spouse Bunnie XO. He joked:
"I feel youthful, man. My libido matches that of a 17-year-old. I'm eager with my wife. We've resumed midday encounters. It's fantastic."
He reinforced this by noting how it has "significantly" altered their union, humorously adding:
"It's entirely different now. I'm pursuing her indoors. Like a youthful fellow! I'm sneaky from every angle, like the Pink Panther. She opens the cabinet, and I surprise her, 'Hello!'"
This is particularly uplifting for Jelly, as the performer behind Need a Favor remembered a critical low point before starting his wellness path:
"Previously, my testosterone levels—I'm open about this—were akin to a young boy's. The examination results were alarming. The revelation hit hard. 'That's my level?' Seriously, it was 57. Without T, performance is impossible. I was wed to a stunning woman and still faced challenges. Initial blood work suggested survival was improbable."
In the end, his prior lifestyle and heaviness represented "constant sorrow" to him, he openly admitted:
"And resentment. I was captive in my own physique. Cleaning up was difficult. Bathing properly posed issues. Entering vehicles. Every choice revolved around my size. If it could support, accommodate, or suit me—individuals overlook how 'I desire that but cannot.' Such matters motivated me deeply."

A major irritation at his peak weight involved something as basic as resting. Jelly disclosed a time when he and Bunnie couldn't share a single bed:
"I had gained so much that we had to place two queen mattresses side by side, unable to fit in a king. I overflowed. Reflecting now, I'm astonished I functioned, appeared on national TV, performed on stages, and managed over 100 shows annually."
Astonishing. He expanded:
"I was self-destructing, quite literally. Consuming myself toward death. No life aspect remained untouched. It's as revolting as imagined. Hygiene struggles haunt me. Shame persists. Shame propels individuals back to old habits, like alcoholics to drinks."
This underscores the value of his therapist collaboration—to explore the underlying causes of his eating and navigate emotions without relapse.
He's dedicated to sustaining lifestyle improvements, he expressed:
"I aim for a feeling, not a target weight, and haven't reached it. I'll recognize it when achieved. Yet, I've exerted effort and slimmed down correctly. The changes permeate everything—from basketball agility and breath control on court, to easier sleep and hip relief, rolling over without noise. Plus, my wife and I can share a bed again."
The Grammy winner also anticipates another major adjustment. With substantial loss, he's considering excess skin removal surgery, possibly soon, he pondered:
"Excess skin lingers. I'm consulting skin doctors about excision within the year. This element confuses me most. I'm proud, as I earned it."
He deserves pride! Jelly summed up:
"It symbolizes my internal battle. Yet, it obstructs. Gazing in the mirror, without it, I'd excel. Likely, I'll excise those areas soon."
We cheer him on in his ongoing health quest! He's a beacon for many.
