GLP-1 Storage Guide
Keep Your Medication Safe & Effective
Proper storage ensures your Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro works as intended. Here's everything you need to know.
Storage Requirements by Medication
Storage Do's and Don'ts
✓ DO
- • Store unopened pens in the refrigerator door
- • Keep the cap on when not in use
- • Let refrigerated pen warm 15-30 min before injecting
- • Write the date you opened it on the pen
- • Store away from light (in box or drawer)
✗ DON'T
- • Never freeze your medication
- • Don't store in direct sunlight or heat
- • Don't leave in a hot car
- • Don't use if solution is cloudy or discolored
- • Don't use after expiration date
What If My Medication Got Warm or Cold?
Brief temperature excursion: If your pen was left out for a few hours but stayed under 86°F, it's likely fine. GLP-1 medications have some stability buffer.
Prolonged heat exposure: If left in a hot car (over 100°F) for hours, the medication may be degraded. When in doubt, contact your pharmacist.
Freezing: If your medication froze, do NOT use it. Freezing damages the peptide structure and can make it ineffective or dangerous.
Visual check: If the solution looks cloudy, has particles, or is discolored (should be clear and colorless), don't use it.
FAQ
Can I travel with my GLP-1 pen unrefrigerated?
Yes, for short trips. Ozempic is stable at room temp for up to 56 days, Wegovy for 28 days. Use a cool pack if traveling in extreme heat.
Should I inject cold medication?
Cold injections are safe but may sting more. Let the pen sit at room temperature for 15-30 minutes before injecting for comfort.
How do I store compounded semaglutide?
Compounded vials should stay refrigerated at all times. Once reconstituted, most pharmacies recommend using within 28-30 days.
