Is Wegovy Pill Safe?

Medical News Today states that brand-name Wegovy and other semaglutide drugs are generally safe. Clinical trials show low risk of serious problems, though long-term studies on side effects are needed.

"In the trials, 6.8% of people who received Wegovy and 3.2% of people who received a placebo permanently stopped treatment due to negative side effects. The most common were gastrointestinal (GI) side effects, including nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. These GI side effects were more likely after a dosage increase."

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the Wegovy pill for weight loss in December 2025.
