Stedman Graham's Role in Oprah Winfrey's Weight Loss Journey
Oprah Winfrey's enduring partner, Stedman Graham, has stood by her throughout her efforts to lose weight and improve her well-being.
In a Tuesday interview with People magazine, Winfrey discussed how Graham remained steadfast at every stage of her physical changes.
"He has consistently provided nothing but encouragement throughout the entire process," Winfrey stated.
The 71-year-old former talk show star noted that she and Graham, who is 74, first connected when she tipped the scales at 200 pounds.
"It has never mattered even a tiny bit," she exclaimed enthusiastically.
Although Graham never expressed a desire for her to slim down, Winfrey admitted feeling awkward about her body at its largest size.
A Pivotal Moment at a Boxing Event
In 1988, the couple watched a fight between Mike Tyson and Michael Spinks. The announcer announced Tyson's weight as 218 pounds, causing Winfrey discomfort.
"Wow, here's this attractive man beside someone matching the weight of the world's heavyweight boxing champion," she recalled thinking while next to Graham.
In her latest book, "Enough: Your Health, Your Weight and What It's Like to Be Free," Winfrey described feeling "pity" for Stedman at that instant. Yet, she soon understood the embarrassment stemmed from her own thoughts.
"He stayed with me at my heaviest point," she revealed, noting their connection has deepened since she slimmed down using GLP-1 drugs.
"All my relationships have flourished because the energy, presence, vitality, and sharpness I now bring are completely transformed," Winfrey explained. "It feels like I have so much more to offer everyone."
