Travel Alert for 33M+ Americans on Weight Loss Injections This Thanksgiving
Medical experts have issued a travel warning for millions of Americans who are taking weight loss medication as Thanksgiving approaches.
It's estimated that more than 33 million Americans currently have prescriptions for these medications, but many may not realize how this impacts their travel arrangements.
A medical expert has cautioned travelers about six essential factors they must remember during the Thanksgiving holiday.
"When travelling with any type of medication, it's essential to keep this in your hand luggage, making it easily accessible during the flight and available to you in the event of hold luggage issues at your destination," they advised.
Around 12% of the adult population in the US, approximately 33.6 million individuals, are using weight loss medications.
Whether these increasingly popular medications are being taken for health or cosmetic purposes, anyone traveling with injections needs to take certain steps before flying. They should also be prepared to take extra steps at the airport.
In addition to this, the medication's storage instructions should be carefully considered when packing for trips.
For instance, Wegovy should be refrigerated between 36°F and 46°F before its initial use. After the first use, it can be stored at room temperature (46°F to 86°F) for a maximum of 28 days.
Therefore, these medications must be stored at the correct temperature in luggage to ensure they remain effective.
Using an insulated travel case can be beneficial; however, make sure the medication doesn't come into direct contact with an ice pack.
Visiting a doctor to obtain a note before packing can prevent delays with the TSA.
This note informs TSA about the prescription, which is particularly crucial in countries with specific medication regulations, in case any questions arise.
