Heather Gay, star of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, remains committed to GLP-1 medications like Ozempic for her weight management journey.
She stresses that her focus is on overall well-being rather than just the number on the scale. This mindset shift began after starting Ozempic in 2023.
Heather's Evolving Approach to Health
"I am focused on how I feel," Heather told Us Weekly. She revealed she rarely checks her weight, even before or after starting the medication.
For her, success means tuning into her body's needs. "For the first time in my life, I'm really super conscious of everything that's going into my body," she explained.
- She prioritizes protein to maintain her shape and sustain energy throughout the day.
- Fiber helps her feel better overall.
Her hunger cues have changed with GLP-1 therapy, making it challenging to eat according to her body's signals. Yet, she balances this without extreme restriction. "I'm not going to eat cardboard," she joked, underscoring enjoyable, nourishing choices.
Ozempic: From Diabetes Treatment to Weight Loss
Ozempic contains semaglutide, originally FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes. It's now widely used off-label for weight loss due to its appetite-suppressing effects.

Heather confirmed her use in November 2023. Results built gradually, leading to a 25-pound loss by September 2024.
Benefits Beyond the Scale
Now in her 50s, Heather feels more comfortable in her body than ever. While lighter weight feels good, the biggest joy is wardrobe freedom.
"It's the ability to wear the clothes that I want to wear," she shared. She described past heartbreak over fashion options unavailable in her size.
Weight loss unlocked that: "To see an outfit and to be able to buy it and to have it fit" became profoundly rewarding.
GLP-1s as Part of a Bigger Lifestyle
Heather views GLP-1 medications as one element of broader changes. "I was either going to talk about my body because I'm being shamed for it, or people would talk about my shape while being shamed for using GLP-1s," she noted.
She chooses transparency to empower others. "I want to use this platform to help other people realize, first of all, it's not impossible," she said. "And second of all, there are things out there that can really support you along the way."
